The Viniani Trio
Three War-time Artists of the 19th Century
For many years, Viniani and the natural beauty of Agrafa have inspired all the manner of artistic creations. Like the hardy people that call it home, the land is no stranger to conflict and has endured several wars that have shaped─but never destroyed─its culture.
It was during World War II that three notable individuals came to prominence, recording their observations of Greek resistance in drawings and photography: Spyros Meletzis, Dimitris Megalidis, and Valias Semertzidis. What follows is an article briefly outlining each of their careers and their time spent in Viniani, as well as a gallery of some of their work.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Professor Nikos Belavilas of the National Technical University of Athens for authoring the article, as well as compiling all the accompanying images and information.
