George P. Mantis was born on April 16th, 1955 in Viniani to Panteli and Eleni Mantis. He is the youngest of nine siblings, all of whom were boys. After serving in the Greek military, George immigrated to the United States in 1977 at the invitation of his brother Vasili. He started working at the Matthews Family House restaurant. In 1980, he married Anna Drosinis (who was from the village of Pavlopoulo) with the ceremony taking place in Charlotte, NC. In 1983 they welcomed their first daughter (Eleni), and in 1985 their second daughter (Athina) was born. George and his brother Nick ventured in their first restaurant together, which was the Airport Diner. Later, George operated George's Grill. His last restaurant was the Mantis Family House, which he co-owned with his brother Vasili. George and Anna enjoy spending time with their grandchildren: George Tsigaridas, Vasili Katsanos, Dimitri Tsigaridas, George Katsanos, and Konstantina Katsanos.
