Apostolis was born on June 29th, 1911 in Viniani, Evrytanias to Mantheos and Polyxeni Papageorgiou. He had an older brother Spiro (1907-1978) and a younger sister Sofia. After arriving in America, he arranged for his sister to join him, and she tragically passed away shortly afterwards.

He spent most of his life working in restaurants, and was a longtime resident of Newport News, Virginia.
