Androniki "Niki" Souris was born in Viniani, Evrytanias to Dimitris Karagiorgis (1883-1963) and Maria Diamandis (1902-1992). Her other siblings were Konstantina (Havelos), Nikos Karagiorgis, Angeliki (Siafakas), and Rhodanthy (Kroustalis). Her father Dimitri had immigrated to the US in 1901 at the age of 18, where eventually he ran several businesses. After World War II, his wife Maria and their children joined him in Frederick, Maryland. In the mid 1950's, the family moved back to Athens, where Niki met her husband Kosmas "Charles" Souris (1922-2013), who was from the island of Kythera. They were married in Athens in 1957, and went on to have two sons: Ioanni (John) and Dimitri (James), both born in Athens. In 1978, the Souris family moved to the state of Virginia where John was attending Georgetown University, allowing James to further his education at VA Tech University.
