Spiros D. Karageorges was born in Viniani, Evrytanias on December 12th, 1907 to Demitrios and Maria (Karoplesites) Karageorges. He had two younger siblings: Georgios and Maria. Spiros spent his early years in Viniani with his family, and no doubt observed his father (who became a naturalized American citizen in 1920) traveling back and forth between Greece, America, Constantinople, and France. He was only a preteen during the outbreak of World War 1. It's likely that the family discussed the prospect of sending Spiros to America shortly afterwards. In 1923, Spiros immigrated to America and arrived at Roanoke, Virginia to live with relatives. It was during his immigration interview that Spiros decided to formally change his name to Karros, which he kept for the remainder of his life.

He traveled back and forth between Viniani and America before finally settling down in Alton, Illinois in 1940. That's where he opened a tavern, which he would own and operate for the rest of his life. In the late 1930's, Spiro's father Demitrios met Eleni Vambaketes (July 5th, 1918-May 15th, 1946) in Lamia, Greece while she was visiting her relatives. Demitrios then introduced her to Spiros, who was still residing in Illinois. Spiros and Eleni married in Alton in late 1939 or 1940 and began a family.

They had two sons: James Karros (1941), and George Karros (1942). When the boys were very young, Eleni became terminally ill, and passed away in 1946. Spiros sent for his mother Alexandra and his sister Maria to come to America to help raise his sons so he could continue working at his tavern to support his family. They both arrived in America in late 1946. On January 27th, 1956, Spiro suffered a fatal medical incident while working at his tavern.

He was only 47 years old when he passed away. His sons James and George were raised by their Papou Demitrios, their Yia Yia Alexandra, and Uncle Georgios Karageorges and his family. They went on to have families of their own, continuing both the Karageorges family tree and their father's legacy.
