Polyxeni P.
Evgenitakis
Born July 2nd, 1952
Polyxeni Papageorgiou Evgenitakis was born July 2nd, 1952 in Viniani, Evrytania to Spiros Papageorgiou (the son of Mantheos and Polyxeni Papageorgiou,1907-1978) and Fotini Panou (the daughter of Antonios and Olympias Panou,1918-1996). Until the age of 12 she lived with her family in Viniani, where she attended elementary school. After that, the family moved to Athens to be closer to her father's place of work and for her and her sister Sofia to pursue their high school education. At the age of 19, Xenia met and married Nikos Evgenitakis. In 1972 (shortly after their wedding) they moved to America at the invitation of her uncle Kostas Panou.
Nikos and Xenia have two children: Spyros (born 1974) and Evanthia (born 1977). They would later have four grandchildren: Nicoletta, Ioannis, Olympia, and Nikolas. Even though 53 years have passed since coming to America, Xenia has never forgotten her homeland and her village. She and her husband travel to Greece every year, and she feels very proud and fortunate to be of Greek heritage.
