George was born July 23rd, 1950 in Viniani to Vasilis and Maria Nikopoulos. After finishing his Greek military service, he immigrated to America in July of 1974. He married Ioanna "Jeanie" (Demopoulos) in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 7th, 1980. Ioanna has worked for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system's food service for thirty-six years.

They have two children: Vasili (born in 1983) and Maria (born in 1985). Vasili married Jill Rosenbaum, and together they have two children: George and Andreas. Maria has a son, Lukas. George has been a professional painter for much of his life, and continues to be. He is also an avid hunter, and he and Jeanie enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.
