George D. Karageorge was born in Viniani, Evrytanias on October 12th, 1921, to Demetri and Alexandra Karageorges. His siblings were Spiros and Maria. George was considered an American citizen at birth by virtue of his father having obtained a US citizenship in 1920. George immigrated to America in the early 1940's with only $8.00 in his pocket and big aspirations in his heart.

He attended Shircliff College in Illinois before enlisting in the US Army in October of 1942, where he served in the Army Air Corps as an aircraft crew chief during World War 2. After his military service ended, George worked as a professional sports promoter/manager, and owned a variety of restaurants and a night club. Upon retiring from the restaurant business, he dedicated himself to the study of Orthodoxy. He was a member of AHEPA for over 60 years, and was also a member of the Boaz Masonic Lodge #850 in Louisville, Kentucky. On June 20th, 1949, George married Vasiliki “Betty” Deligianis (April 12, 1930 – January 18th, 2013), who was born in Centralia, Illinois. She was the daughter of Tom and Stella (Manetas) Deligianis. George and Betty lived most of their lives in Louisville, Kentucky where they raised their four children: Tom, Alexis, Rhonda, and Dimitri. They were also blessed with five grandchildren. George and Betty enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, and delighted in passing along their beloved Greek traditions of delicious food, amazing stories, and traditional Greek dancing. ADDENDUM On the Karageorge family's contribution of land to New Viniani After the earthquake of 1966, the Greek government decided to relocate the village to a more geographically stable location. The parcel of land granted to Takis "George" Karageorges was generously donated to the village in order to build the church of the Dormentation of the Virgin Mary in New Viniani.
