Karageorges
Born January 24th, 1882
Died December 11th, 1966
Demitrios G. Karageorges was born on January 24th, 1882, to Georgios and Maria (Karoplesites) Karageorges. Many of the details of Demitrios' early life remain unclear, such as the place of his birth (he may have been born in Viniani, Evrytanias or Constantinople) and whether he had any siblings (he may have had a sister named Eleni). In the early 1900's, Demitrios married Alexandra Billios (January 1st 1885-August 20th 1971). She was the daughter of Nikolas and Agoritsa Billios from the village of Marathia. Afterwards, Demitrios immigrated to America and made several trips between America and Greece from 1907 to 1925. In 1920, he became a naturalized American citizen. Demitrios and Alexandra had three children, all born in Viniani: Spiros (1907), Georgios (1921), and Maria (1925). According to his daughter Maria, Demitrios was a career politician throughout his life in Greece. For 16 years (roughly between 1930 and 1940's) he served as an area governor, mayor, and the president of Viniani. He spoke several languages, was highly regarded in Evrytania, and briefly served as the president of the local Red Cross Organization in Greece during World War II. He died in Louisville, Kentucky in 1966.
